We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and driven individuals for this exciting and challenging hands on role in Lancashire. As a Team member you will operate our flood assets and defences to put our contingency plans into action during a flood incident. You will also carry out the routine maintenance programe, which includes repairing flood defences, mowing embankments, de-weeding river channels, and removing in channel blockages.. You must be willing to work outdoors in all weathers and have good communication and teamwork skills.

Duties include:
• Completing activities safely and in line with health, safety and wellbeing practice and our HSW culture
• Incident response for both flooding and environmental incidents, inside and outside of normal working hours (standby allowance and overtime payment on top of the basic pay)
• Operating our flood risk assets and equipment, such as deploying sandbags and temporary barriers, mobile pumps and pollution equipment
• Working with contractors who deliver both maintenance and incident work on our behalf
Field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and respond to incidents locally across Lancashire. A range of technical skills are used in the maintenance of watercourses, along with asset maintenance and small construction projects. We handle a variety of specialist equipment including plant, chainsaws and mowing equipment. We support incident response, day and night, through a standby rota that attracts additional allowances.
We welcome applications from anyone, from any background and mix of experience, you may have valuable transferable skills. Experience of field or site based work is beneficial however, good teamwork and communication skills with a positive attitude are essential.

• A good understanding of site based health and safety requirements and be able to maintain/develop a strong HSW culture on site
• Literacy and numeracy skills are required
• Competent with IT, such as Microsoft word, and IT devices such as the iPad and iPhone
A full UK driving licence is required
