Background
Black Rod's department is a significant part of the House of Lords Administration; providing front of house support in many forms to Members of the House of Lords (Peers) and the public, delivering State occasions and other significant events, controlling access to the Chamber and Committees of the House and leading on business resilience for the House.
The Doorkeepers are a key part of the Black Rod’s department, especially relating to the Chamber and Grand Committees.
The Principal Doorkeeper leads a busy team which is fully committed to the professional day-to-day working of the House. The Principal Doorkeeper is also accountable for the smooth running of specific aspects of the regular ceremonial events and VIP duties at events such as State Opening and State Principal with the support of their Senior Management team
The Role
The Principal Doorkeeper is accountable for the team of 22 Doorkeepers who collectively ensure security and smooth operation of the Chamber, Committees of the House of Lords and spaces around the Chamber and Peers Entrance.
The Person
The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:
• Demonstrable experience of running a front of house operational team in a complex organisation with high pressured moments and achieving successful outcomes and business benefits
• Demonstrable experience of successful relationship management with a range of stakeholders, and proven ability to balance conflicting priorities in both highly time pressurised and normal time situations.
• Proven project management and project assurance skills, and an ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with a variety of stakeholders.
